This is one of our favorite state parks. We usually stay in the Lower Lake Campground. The staff are friendly and outgoing, and Rangers patrol the campground regularly. We have been camping here for over 15 years, and have established friendships with local merchants, business people and local residents. This is a scenic campground which has two lakes for fishing, one for swimming, a playground for the little ones, and Ice Cream available at the general store. They have made many upgrades and improvements, and the construction continues with more improvements underway.

The staff is very accommodating and helpful. The park is clean, and located in rural setting, yet minutes away from shopping and restaurants. The Wi-Fi is weak as listed in other reports, but we found cell service with AT&T throughout the campground. The cable is 25 channels from Direct TV, and sites are available for your personal satellite systems. Prices in the store are not out of line, and are far cheaper than Kings Dominion charges for things.... The park is convenient to Fredericksburg and I 95 and we used it as a base for our District of Columbia and Richmond trips.
